What We Are Reading Now

By: Cheryl Strayed

I’ll just start by saying that I LOVED, loved, loved this book. It is going on my top ten list. Wild is an autobiographical story about one woman’s hike on the Pacific Crest trail. Strayed is a woman broken by life that goes out searching how to put it all back together. Her eloquent writing style makes the people she meets along the way pop off the page like some character out of a fiction novel. She is at times poetic, other times angry, but she never gives into self-loathing. This made me respect her, and her journey, all that much more. Some would argue that her sporadic decision to hike the PCT with little to no training was an ill-conceived idea. Others would remark that while stupid, it was brave, and she is one tough woman. If you enjoy memoirs that are also adventure stories, then I would definitely recommend you get lost in, Wild.
