In the vein of fun chick lit, Nine Months in August, by Adriana Bourgoin, is a great read for any new moms! The author draws from her own experiences as she chronicles the highs, and sometimes embarrassing lows, of a first pregnancy. Gretchen Fox did not plan on being a mom, but as the book cover suggests, life can happen when you least expect it. I loved how the author took you chapter by chapter through each complex stage of pregnancy. Each chapter began with a funny quote from a parenting magazine that set you up for what to expect from the following chapter. I laughed, I cried, right along with Gretchen. This first time mom enjoyed learning that many pregnancy experiences are universal.
A little research showed that this is Bourgoin’s first novel. Here’s hoping she comes out with another one equally as enjoyable!
