A Short History of Women by Kate Walbert

Told in the voices of women from five generations of the same family, A Short History of Women explores what it means to be a woman of the time, from the late 19th century to the early 21st century. The first woman the reader meets, Dorothy Townsend,  is a suffragette on her deathbed, starving herself for the cause. Each woman chronicled after this has a similar fire and determination as Dorothy which makes this an interesting and powerful story.

A National Book Award Finalist, this book was leisurely paced and character-centered and reads like a series of intertwining short stories.
